4 Steps to a Successful Movie Night!

For 2017, I wanted to start doing a lot of things different. One being, spend more one on one time with my girls. Running a daycare, going to school, and being a mom is challenging, but is all very rewarding. I wanted to make it even more rewarding by spending the little time I have with my little girls as engaged with them as possible. That’s when I came to the conclusion that Friday nights should officially be our family movie night!

My family never really had a scheduled day to spend watching movies, but we loved movies in general and would watch a movie together whenever we got the chance. I absolutely loved being able to spend that time with my parents. I still have great memories from those nights. This is an activity that kids will remember for years and hopefully want to continue on with their own families.

Here are a few of the activities I’ve planned for the night. All can be used by anyone and, with a little tweaking, could be made perfect for your family!

1. Create a menu

I created a menu that fit the movie I chose. I happened to choose one of my childhood favorites, Oliver and Company. We were a big Disney family, so it’s no surprise this was one of my favorites. On the menu for the night I included the entree, Tito’s walking tacos, two side dishes, Oliver’s kitten chow (refried beans) and The Big Apples, and for dessert, Dodger’s Paw Prints (chocolate chip cookies in paw print shapes). Here’s a look at what I created to hang in our dining room. It was super easy and fun to do!oliver-and-company-menu

*We weren’t able to make walking tacos since our store was completely sold out of pretty much everything in anticipation of an upcoming snow storm, but we made something similar.*

2. Make movie tickets.

This was so much fun to do! I found some pictures from the movie I picked, used the initials from mine and my kids’ names to make a theater and the put the name of the movie. Super simple, but so cute! Kids of all ages will love getting their “movie ticket” at the beginning of the night.

3. Make a bed on the floor.

This always seemed to be the best part when my family watched movies. Bring out all the blankets and pillows you can find around the house and spread them out around the living room, or wherever you choose to watch the movie, and sit down and enjoy being snuggled up with the kids.

4. Make some popcorn and enjoy the movie!

You can’t have movie night without popcorn! Settle down and enjoy the show. The kids will love being able to spend that time with you and you will enjoy being able to bring out your inner child again.

I would love to hear how your movie night goes! What was your favorite part? I hope I have provided you with enough materials to have a successful movie night that can become a tradition in your family that is passed down through generations.
